The Stricto Sensu Graduate Program in Biosystems aims to contribute to the training of qualified human resources for the sustainable use of products and services offered by natural systems and their biological components, treated here as biosystems, as well as with technical capacity to generate technologies that can be used in their conservation and sustainable commercial exploitation.
The team of researches is formed by professors from the campus Jorge Amado of UFSB, by researchers from the Executive Committee of the Cocoa Farming Plan (CEPLAC), and the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR). The Graduate Program in Biosystems has a diverse background working team in different fields of science, which facilitates a multi- and interdisciplinary approach to processes, and applications of biosystems. This interdisciplinary training is intrinsic to the University's proposal, and the researchers who make up the Program team have strong concerns about conservation of biodiversity linked to income generation.

Admission, profile of the program and graduated students
The admission of the Graduate Program in Biosystems student will be through the selection process. The duration of the Master's course will be a minimum of twelve (12) months and a maximum of twenty-four (24) months. The duration of the Doctorate course will be a minimum 24 months and a maximum of 48 months, counted from the date of beginning of the academic activities in the program.
Concentration Area: management and conservation of biosystems
The purpose of the Biosystems Management and Conservation area is to investigate patterns and processes seeking to propose, develop, apply and evaluate methodologies and techniques in the main fields of environmental sciences. The researches should ensure the conservation of biosystems allied to innovative technologies to increase efficiency in the use of natural resources in production processes, aiming to improve the quality of life and mitigate the pressure of economic activities on natural systems.
Research Lines:
Functioning and sustainability of biosystems
It aims to investigate physical, chemical, biological and social patterns and processes that drive the functioning of biosystems from their subsystems and their relations, so that the knowledge generated from systemic thinking contributes to the conservation of the environment and the sustainable use of natural resources.
Production and technology applied to biosystems
It aims to create and develop innovative technologies to increase productive efficiency and reduce risks involving human activity in the various biosystems to improve the quality of life in urban and rural environments.
Profile of the master graduate
The Graduate Program in Biosystems seeks to train masters with competencies and skills to develop interdisciplinary studies; with knowledge and mastery of conceptual and methodological instruments that allow scientific research and teaching on biological systems and their interactions with the environment and human, in a contemporary interdisciplinary approach, seeking efficient solutions for productive systems based on biosystems. From the integrated knowledge of the physical, biological and social environment, the graduate will be able to work in multi and interdisciplinary teams, whether in teaching in basic and secondary education, contributing to the improvement of the quality of this stage of education, or higher, contributing not only to the training of professionals through teaching, but also to research, extension and innovation.
Profile of the doctorate graduate
The Graduate Program in Biosystems seeks to train doctors who, in addition to the competencies and skills described for the master's degree, seek through the in-depth investigation of a problem or hypotheses, to point out solutions from original and creative ideas that represent a real contribution to the study of biosystems, as well as to improve and develop products and technologies for social insertion. The graduated students will have an entrepreneurial profile and will be able to seek efficient solutions for Brazilian production systems, reconciling productivity and environmental conservation. This cognitive profile intends to enable the egress to carry out systemic approaches to themes in the spectrum of environmental, agrarian, biological and social sciences. The professional will be able to understand the aspects of biosystems, their interactions and potential use and lead teams and research groups with multi and interdisciplinary approaches to project design and management in the area of biosystems.
